GRAND MAGUS "Wolf's Return"

GRAND MAGUS "Wolf's Return" - (this disc has been out for awhile but I just got it, so there. here is a Swedish doom band that although are not in the Candlemass or Memento Mori league, still deliver a decent slab of heavy grooves. it is driving me nuts, though cause the singer reminds me of someone and I cannot place it and I know in a couple weeks I will remember. oh well. the vocals are in-between power metal and a near goth vibe, but not nearly as majestic as the pipes of one Messiah Marcolin, who should reunite Memento Mori now that he has been ousted from Candlemass (again). back to Grand Magus, this disc is a pretty good mix of Candlemass and the Obsessed, and though not very original, is done the right way. best tracks are the title track and "blood oath", with opener "kingslayer" being the best song on here. that song rocks so much that it kind of pales the rest of the album. this seems like the kind of band that can only get better, so will have to check out their other material, but this one is a pretty good start…)
