ONSLAUGHT "Live Polish Assault 2007" - (I was so stoked that Onslaught, the original crusty thrashers, reunified and put out a new record! this DVD is taken from their show in Poland and I think it was shot before their 4th album "Killing Peace" dropped. Sy Keeler from "The Force" is back on the mic and the set is solid. you get 3 tracks from the classic debut "Power From Hell" - angels of death, thermonuclear devastation of the planet earth and onslaught (power from hell), the first 5 tracks from the classic "The Force", 1 track from the under-rated {and grows better with age} "In Search of Sanity" - shellshock, which is the best song on that disc and 3 tracks from "Killing Peace" - killing peace, twisted jesus and burn. granted, I would have liked to hear lord of evil, shock 'n' awe and skullcrusher 1, but maybe next time. the band is tight, and though the vocals are perfect, they are mixed a bit louder than should be, sometimes drowning out the thrash. but as far as live metal recordings go, this is one of the better ones. the disc contains extensive interviews with Sy Keeler and guitarist Nigel Rockett, the latter of whom looked angry during the set. the interviews are insightful, as are the extensive notes that go over everything from their crusty hardcore roots to the major label fiasco with Steve Grimmett from Grim Reaper on vocals. they also note some of their favorite bands BESIDES the obvious Discharge, and surprised to see Metal Church, Ayreon and Swans on that list. other extras include bonus audio tracks from 1987(!) and some bonus video footage of a Japanese show from 2006. the bonus cd features the main concert and, again, the vocals are mixed high, but it's freaking Onslaught!!! support the legends and pick this up)
