ISIS "In the Absence of Truth" - (back in the late 90s, Isis created some dense, droning soundscapes that were Godzilla heavy. heck, "Celestial" crushes! but, they started to mellow out on "Oceanic" and I did not pick up "Panopticon", as I heard they got even mellower. well, I heard this one and I just don't get it. all I can think of is that they had a big band meeting and collectively decided to go boring. or maybe their indy rock girlfriends made them turn down their amps and made them trade in their Neurosis disc for some Mogwai ones. if you never heard Mogwai, they should put some warning on their disc warning you not to operate heavy machinery as their brand of elevator music will induce comas. but back to Isis. this disc sucks! what the hell is wrong with these peoples? they need to lay off the anti-depressants and make some noise cause this crap is so monotonously dull, it makes most adult contemporary seem as brutal as most gore-grind. should have called this "In the Absence of Rock" or "in the Absence of Metal" or "In the Absence of Stuff that Does Not Suck". shame on you, Isis.
